Broken stem

I have always wondered why people drink alcoholic stuff when something’s bothering them.
I have always thought that it would be better if they have a clear head at times like that. Decisions when you are intoxicated aren’t always the best.
Having this strange liquid, at least for me, gives me an extra kick of confidence boost.

I have always wondered how things would go for me I were more confident. Probably won’t be where I was now. Probably in a better place.
I know beer doesn’t cure anything but somehow it makes me think that I am something more. That I am a better person. And it’s great at times. It's always great to think that you are more awesome than others even just for a bit. Specially for someone who doesn't have anything else to offer anyway. I don't have the brains. The looks. The confidence. I was told though that I am a good person though, but that can't really bring me anywhere.

It's probably the best if I stop reaching for something that I can't have.
Even with my long arms, no matter how hard I extend them, always comes short.

I have decided to stop chasing for something I can't have.
It's not really good to keep chasing something forever anyway.

If I don't stop and cut it... a new one wouldn't grow.

Sweet drink

I remember hearing something like this: "Beer (or alcohol) taste sweet when you're feeling sad or down. Bitter when you're ok"

I can't really remember where I heard it but I'm pretty sure that's the thought or idea.

A couple of months ago I decided to stop myself from drinking beer. I'm not alcoholic but I do enjoy having a bottle or two after work. I don't know, maybe psychological but it makes me feel more good in a way. And no I don't need people around me or going to bars just to drink. I was successful though in my small attempt to resist the said liquid, of course breaking it with a bottle if there's any important events like meeting up with old friends.

As I type this I am enjoying a cold can. And it feel so good. Then I remember the line I mentioned. Am I sad that I am enjoying this bitter drink? I took another swig and it did taste a little sweeter.

A friend told me about this job in an advertising company. When I heard about it, I immediately wanted to try it out. This might be the opportunity that I have been waiting for. It could change everything, I can finally follow the career path that I have been wanting for years.

I just find it funny how the timing was, yet again so off. I heard it when I am currently doing good in my recent job. If this was offered last year, I would have applied without thinking twice. But now, I can say I am happy with where I am. This job is something that I can settle with for now and I have no plans of leaving it just yet.

Don't you find it annoying. Really.

Why not last year? Why now? Why now when I feel that I am already rusty with what I know about the field. Somehow I don't wanna try risking anything. It feels better when you're on the safe side.

It got me to thinking that maybe I'm just afraid.
Afraid that if I tried it and failed, it will hit me twice as hard. It'll hurt way more knowing that you ain't good in what you are passionate about.
Like it'll probably suck more than not trying yeah?

I'm probably off better in ranting about stuff.
And fuck my writing is so bad now.

Just because you want something, just because it's your dream, it doesn't mean you're great at it ~

4th prize

Weekend. Holiday on Monday and Tuesday. Quota reached. I have four days to sit back, relax, and do whatever. None actually but bum around and surf the net, read random old books (since I don’t have any new ones), and see what’s happening on the boob tube.

I think I’m too engrossed with Kpop that I don’t even know what’s happening. I don’t read newspapers anymore and I don’t watch the news that often. Too annoyed to hear anything negative when you get home tired from work.

My recent job, I like it. Not really my field but I’m ok with it now. Not that great but it’s pretty good.

We can’t get everything we want in life anyway. But there’s always a consolation.

I may not be where I want to be, but the pay is ok, the people I work with are cool, schedule is good too, company’s pretty laidback. I may rant and complain all I want but I actually think I wouldn’t want to swap it to a high paying job where I would work on graveyard shifts.

I didn’t win the first prize but rather got 4th prize. Not as great but hey, who am I to complain.

Tired. Should sleep soon.

Back for good?

I suddenly have the urge to make a new blog but couldn't decide on a domain name. But then why not just continue on with the first blog I made years ago.

I just hope I have the inspiration to write just like before.

I know I'm not the best writer out there but writing is a good way to express those hidden feelings/ideas/whatever.
I haven't written anything for a long time and I know my writing is so rusty now. Probably worse than how I was before. Who cares, this is my page anyway.

What time is it? It's 2PM!!!

OMFG!! This is just the best night ever! I'm so fucking happy for 2PM. They won the Artist of the Year award and Best Male Group award at MAMA (MNet Asian Music Awards) and the fucking deserve it!!!

I'm so happy I decided to watch the live streaming. This is just a happy day for 2PM and HOTTEST! And I was spamming twitter and facebook like crazy!

They performed 'Heartbeat' and 'Again & Again' and they were great as always. Though the A&A performance was a little heartbreaking seeing that there's a missing spot for Jaebum and I was like singing along here when the fans started singing his part because there was no back up track and the spotlight was focused on the missing spot. TT.TT

And how the members kept mentioning Jay's name during the acceptance speech, it just made me sad. It would have been perfect if there were 7 of them. But I know Jay's watching his brothers and I for one will never get tired of waiting for Park Jaebum's return.

Oh and for a second during the Heartbeat perf I there was this guy who suddenly came out of nowhere and I was like 'OMFG Jay's back!' and it turns out to be JYP who is conducting the musicians. >.<

But I'm really really happy for them. They really deserves those awards.

Mirotic

A few years back I attended this three day Journalism fellowship seminar, and I was really inspired by the speech of Maria Ressa, who is the Head of ABS-CBN’s News and Current Affairs and the invited speaker of the day. She was such a great speaker. One page of my 2006 planner was filled with quotes from the speech.

Somehow, Ressa just made me want to verge into the world of Journalism even more. It was the time when I really really wanted to be a writer. I have all the passion in the world. As if I have my future crystal clear. I know where I was headed. The feeling that you could go and conquer the world, do anything you want, be anything.

I somehow re-felt part of that great emotion as I was browsing my 2006 planner. And it felt good. It made me smile.

Sad enough, and like I’ve mentioned like a thousand times here, it all just miraculously disappeared one day. Sad. Really sad.

As of now, I don’t think I’ll be pursuing my 'supposed to be' career. I’m in a tricky maze and I’m really having a hard time looking for the way out.

Hopefully, I’ll find the exit soon and have my old ‘passion’ back as the prize. And since it looks like I’m still half-way through, I’ll just try to enjoy life as it is.

Between Friends

I have this thing for making my friends wait when meeting them. I mean, yes we’ll go out but it’s no job interview or something right? They wouldn’t really get mad at me if I make them wait for a bit. And they seem to be so used to it as well, and that goes to my excuses for being late too.

It’s really weird, because I really hate it when people make me wait. But than again, it’s a completely different thing when I make them wait right.

A few days ago, I had this little reunion with some college friends. Mj and I decided to meet at the train station so we could go to Glorietta together to meet up with Lee and Pete.

Sunday. 12:35 noon.

GameSho: Text mo ko pag paalis ka na.

Mjep: *@#%@! Kanina pa ako nandito. 12:30 usapan diba.

GameSho: Lol. Give me 5 minutes, magwawax lang ako ng hair (something that takes me a longer time since I have a longer hair now – which I call the adik Yael long hair look)

And of course, my five minutes turns up to be 15 minutes.

Also, during college for a thesis meeting, I remember making Danna and MJ wait for me for 3 hours. The looks on their faces were unforgettable.

Waltz

The ‘craze’ over facebook and I was tagged by some of my friends. And for some reason, I don’t want to post this there. I don’t know but I’m not that into facebook, I don’t even know why I opened an account.

Going back. I remember making something like this before – though it was 15 random things instead of 25. But since I love writing about myself, I’ll do this one too – of course, without repeating anything from my previous list. Click here to read it.

1. If ever there is a Halloween costume party, I would dress up as either Harry Potter or the Phantom of the Opera.

2. I drink water, milk or orange juice in the morning, though I’m a coffee drinker. Coffee is for me to enjoy in the afternoon or evening.

3. A big fan of Super Junior and Epik High. And I mean I love them!

4. Pinoy dramas that I currently watch: “May Bukas Pa’ and ‘Tayong Dalawa’

5. I have lots of Batman stuff. (Jacket, shirts, water bottles, mugs, pillow, etc)

6. Seriously, I can eat McDonald’s Spaghetti and Chicken Nuggets everyday.

7. Not too fond of kids, except for a couple.

8. Most of my money goes to junk foods and coffee.

13. After work, while walking from the village gate to our house, I ALWAYS listen to BoA’s Love Letter.

14. Big fan of WWE Raw brand.

15. Short or long hair, I always wear my sister or mother’s head band.

16. Monthly, I never forget to buy a copy of Men’s Health and Maual. Been thinking of subscribing. At times, I also buy Metro Him.

17. Been thinking of ordering a copy of Epik High, Jay Chou, BoA and Super Junior albums. But it’s quite expensive.

18. Sites I never forget to check when surfing: WWE’s official site, Kim Heechul’s Soompi thread, Jay Chou’s international fan forum, BoA’s official English fan site and Soompi thread, a wordpress blog of K-pop updates and LiveJournal.

19. I’m so prone to headaches.

21. Not too fond of pets.

22. But, if given a chance, I want a turtle as a pet to be named Napoleon. Turtles seems like they need less attention and stuff unlike dogs.

23. I love Disney movies, but my top faves would be The Emperor’s New Groove and Cinderella.

25. If something is bothering me, I would walk. Walking and thinking of nothing and enjoying an ice cream or cold drink. It just somehow magically removes my stress for some time.

Idol Mania

Once again, I’m into the Idol craze. And yes, I already have my favorites from group 1.

Danny Gokey – The guy is just super. His ‘Kiss From a Rose’ and ‘Hero’ performance were superb! Right now, he is my number one bet fir this season.

Anoop Desai – Not really a fan but when I saw his ‘Angel of Mine’ performance, I thought it was really good and that he was great.

Alexis Grace and Jackie Tohn - I think they’re ok and they are really unique.

Tatiana del Toro – not really my favorite but I’m quite hoping she’d stay cause I think she’s funny and interesting.

August Serenade

I’ll be going to back to IBM next week to collect my back pay and COE. Though I’m enjoying my extended stay in Bumsville, I really miss a lot of things.

I miss waking up 5am everyday. Catching the early shuttle ride to Makati. Entering PBCom. Lunch at the Patio with colleagues. Yosi break while I enjoy either an ice cream or burger. Surfing the Net while working. Loud music in the room while working. The long line of the shuttle after work. Makati traffic in the evening. Or sometimes, the uber jammed MRT to Ortigas. Being extra happy on Fridays since it’s my last day. Enjoying my weekend off. Half sulking when Monday comes.

And right now, I’m undecided whether to pursue a job in the media field or just look for a non-related job with a decent pay again. And to tell you the truth, I’m more inclined with the latter.

Everything seemed to have changed. Back in college, I have all the passion in the world for writing. I still have, but not to the extent of starting a career with media or writing.

There are just a lot of thing I wish I knew before college. Everything would have been different probably. But nonetheless, I’m quite satisfied with what I have now, though it’s not much.

And ok, I have decided. I’ll start job hunting again. ^^

Top 20 songs of 2008

I’ve been writing down my monthly top 20 songs on my planner, this is something that I have been doing in the past3 years. I don’t know why I did but I just decided to one day. So I’ve reviewed the list and also checked the songs on my phone to come up with ‘My 08 Top 20 Songs’.

20. Epik High – Let It Rain

- Epik High would be my biggest musical discovery of 08. I’ve known the rap band years before but didn’t really paid attention to their song, not until 08 came. And now, I really love this band and I think they’re so brilliant. This song is one oif their older songs that I got to listen to a few months ago.

19. Sarah Bareilles – Gravity

- this song was used as a background music in an episode of ‘We Got Married’. Meaning of the song is just so good.

18. Vanessa Hudgens – Say Ok

- this is an old song that I still listen to and is still in my phone. I just love it.

17. Mariah Carey – Bye bye

- one of my colleagues in Yahoo! Is in love with Carey and everyday he will play her songs non stop. Among her newer songs, this is one that I liked the best. If I remember correctly, I think she wrote this herself. Cool.

16. Epik High – One

- a great song fro their latest album. I just love the songs of this band. And their videos are so epic!! This one is a must as well.

15. Super Junior – U

- I just can’t stop listening to this song. This would be the song that got me hooked in Super Junior.

14. Imago – Sundo

- I think this was released in 07. But I remember listening to this song on the way home in a bus when I was still in Yahoo! And I was returned in grave yard shift.

- another win song from the best band ever. You just cant help but love this band, they’re just so frickin cool.

- soundtrack from the movie Camp Rock. And this song is very good. Personally I think it is better than a lot of the songs in High School Musical.

- This song just makes me happy for some reason. Whenever I want to be more confident and such, I’d listen to this song and it never fails to give me the extra boost.

- the video is the best. It’s amazingly disturbing in a good way actually. The video is a must see.

- very romantic song from a movie that I like. Really gives you the ‘awww’ factor.

- a nice Korean ballad that even my sister loved. Kyuhyun’s voice is good and I oove how it perfectly blend with the girls’ voice.

- I don’t know when this song was released, all I know is that I really listen to this one a lot.

- BoA’s US debut song, and it’s so catchy.

- another song that I cant help but li8sten to almost everyday. Rokkuko!!

- it’s sad that he left Rivermaya, but at least he’s still in the music industry and this song proves that he’s still good.

Velvet

It never fails to amuse me how fast time flies. It was just like yesterday I was having a blast working in Yahoo!, then being transferred to United Airlines where hell slowly began, which soon ended up to my first ever resignation.

But to sum it all up, 08 has been a good one for me. Despite the obvious hardships and almost everyday exhaustion I had at work. It was good nonetheless. Like I’ve said, getting new experience is always welcome.

IBM will always be special for me. It was the first company I’ve worked with and it is a good one no doubt, but due to some circumstances, I had to go.

The feeling of leaving a company you have worked in for a year was so weird. I remember the day when I was about to go to the office to pass my resignation. I was incredibly happy for the fact that I’ll get to have a long rest, but there’s the feeling of missing the company and people you have worked with. It was not really a good feeling, but it seems like it was the best choice and right thing to do anyway.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right?

Probably the best thing I’ve learned this year was a work ethic lesson:

‘Stay if you’re happy, leave if you’re not’

I’ll definitely remember that for a really long time, as I continuously try to write everyday and get my old flare in writing back. And I will.

We refer to the GameSho, M-jep, and Darlo group as ‘Thesis-mates’ until now. Or sometimes ‘Ka-chillax’ (which is with Mr Carlos.)

I really grew fond of these two girls and I miss them so much! Too bad our Alluring Scorpio’s too busy this December with her teaching work, we didn’t get to go out this month.

I love M-jep for her weirdness and enthusiasm. And she’s one of those people who can endure my slight tendency to be a a so-called narcissist, and of course my never ending complains about every little thing.

However, I can’t say the same for Darlo though. I find her inner weirdness, ummm weird, and she’s a bit on the pessimist side. But soon, I was able to love her slowness and all.

Though I haven't posted anything in the past weeks, I'm was able to write again. Hope this continues.

Officially back in bumsville. Never thought I’d be so happy to say that. I have the rest of November and the whole month of December to relax and enjoy. What’s left is to slaughter my hard-earned cash.

But then again, I enjoyed my 1 year and 2 months stay with IBM. Specially the first half, it was a blast. Until things got a lot more challenging and difficult. But I still made the most out of it.

The last week was, I think, the worst. Waiting for your shift to end was like hell. And I will never, I mean NEVER, work in a call center again – I will if the jobs an email or chat support agent, but not in a voice account. Five months of talking for eight hours was more than enough, and I don’t think I’ll ever miss it. Once enough.

On the other hand, I just want to mention a few people that I’ve learned to appreciate and respect while I was in the company:

Batch mates:

Ace – the MC marathons are kinda annoying, but weird enough, I miss it.

Diane – she’s a very interesting Butch. She will not be easily forgotten.

Kuya Ben – I really didn’t like him at first sine we didn’t really click (probably because of the age difference), but he turned out to be one of the people I was most thankful for.

Janus – my doughnut and chocolate-mate. Miss our Krispy Kreme and random chocolate cravings. Good Luck on your exams! Aja!

Robby – my original Noona (Noona: Korean term used by guys to address older girls), I always loved his version of ‘How Deep Is Your Love’.

Edry – the girl I thought I’d never get along with because of her strong personality, but she’s really cool and nice.

I really enjoyed the company of everyone (Ate Mercy, Corrs, Avi, Kuya Angelo, Kuya Mark, etc). Mami Nari for being a great TL. Would have stayed longer if Y! is still there. If only. Lol

Team Jacksonville – I also enjoyed the company of these people (Ate Jvee, Minnie, Ai, Aileen, Grace and Che. Kuya Ipe and Jay). Maybe I would have left earlier if not for them. They’ve been nothing but nice and I really appreciate that. Thanks!

I’m happy that I don’t have to take calls anymore, but sad that I’ll be leaving IBM. But anyway, it was a fun first job.

Countdown begins

By the week, I’m going to pass my resignation. Can’t believe I lasted one year when the original plan was only three months. Over the weekend, I was deciding if I would immediately resign or make it until November 30. And I think I finally decided to choose the latter.

Pros:

- a very happy and merry up-coming holiday! (Retention and 13^th month pay on the spot!)

Cons:

- more days of work and talking.

I’m not sure if I could still make a full month straight of graveyard shift work. But if there’s someone who could embrace stress and pressure, it’s me. But then again, it’s different when you work and sleep like a living vampire.

I thank my TL for giving utmost consideration of my absences (even though I know that she hates her agents being late, absent, etc.) I’m a physically weak guy with asthma, so it’s really tough for me.

But I made it through college by commuting 4 hours a day, sometimes staying at school until 9pm even though I have classes like 8am the next day. And now, I only travel like at least an hour a day and I’m complaining.

I can’t seem to stop talking about work.

Swan Song III

74 days to go. Still up and surviving.

I’ve been working in IBM for a year now. So cool. Me and my Yahoo batch mates are planning to have dinner one time to celebrate our 1^st year (4 out of 6 in the group also celebrating 1^st year of work in their 1^st job). Really miss those guys.

Anyway last week, Mj (my ever loyal book fair buddy) and I went to the 29^th International Book Fair where I spent almost 2k worth of books. It’s hard to restrain from buying when you know that the books are on super sale. So yeah. Also, Mj and I decided to have Japanese food rather than our usual Korean Food cravings.

Just finished reading ‘The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time’ by Mark Haddon, which is surprisingly a good book ( I just didn’t like all those math problems and explanation thing, I hate math). Up next Haruki Murakami’s ‘Kafka on the Shore’ (which was recommended by one of United’s VA trainer Mabel.) Still have lots of books waiting. And yeah, no more book-buying until December for me.

Toxic

Working is so freaking stressful. Makes you wonder why on effing earth did you ever wish and hope you’d get out of studying ASAP. When in fact, school gives you less tress than work.

I have 3 months and 2 weeks to go. Feel like giving up now. But I know I shouldn’t. Pressure and stress are two things that I know I can handle quite well.

It’s nice to escape and run away from reality every time things get frenzy. And quite honestly I’m good at that. Possibly the reason why I’m still here, surviving.

Do I live to work or do I work to live? Hmmm.

I work so I could satisfy all my selfish pleasures and cravings.

And to the person who invented or discovered coffee and music, hands down. Those two things just keep me sane everyday.

Anyway, I was reading some of my old emails and found my 3 year college articles. It was fun to re-read all of it. From my Literary Journalism articles, to my numerous Features articles. Then there’s the travelogue article I wrote with Mj and Danna, and the Zorayda Sanchez article with Mj.

The day the earth disappears

So I’ve been officially taking calls now for like almost a week, and yeah it’s tough. Still adjusting from the non-voice to voice transition. So pretty much, I’ve really gained respect for call center people – not because I’m also a call center agent. It not really an easy money job like every one thinks it is.

So, if you’ve noticed, I got this countdown ticker on my blog. So I’ll be working my ass out in IBM until this ticker reaches zero, and when it does I’ll decide if I should continue and stay in the company or finally look for a job in the media industry.

It’ll be a tough decision, knowing that if I do decide to finally look for a new job, I have to settle for a less competitive salary, which is of course not that exciting since the primary reason why we work is for the money right.

Anyway, a few days ago I watched the movie Stardust and I really liked it. So the next day before I go to work, I stopped by at a book store and bought the book. Nice story. Very interesting and unusual Gaiman’s mind is.

Laugh at me if you want, I’ll be watching High School Musical in a few minutes. Lol

First week of the voice account training is over. Yeah it’s quite challenging. Now I realized how easy a non-voice account is. And I’m having doubts if I can even last or pass this training.

But then again, so far the training’s been fun and good. The trainer’s really nice, luckily. Easy to talk to and approachable.

Already working in IBM for almost 8 months, and I can’t seem to let go even if it’s a call center job. Weird because I swore that I will not work in a call center, but here I am.

The place where I am

This would be my last week with LiveWire.

Yesterday, I took this chance and had an interview for another account and yeah I got accepted and would immediately start next week.

But I’d take this as an opportunity, because come to think of it my salary would increase. And also I have a few friends who also got accepted in the account. So that’s cool. As if we have a choice anyway.

It’s sad but then again nothing is constant but change. And I think change should always be welcome.

In Limbo

Time goes by so fast that I can’t seem to catch up. Last night I couldn’t work properly because of this depressing news we got. Soon the account that I’m in right now will sunset. Well, we already know about the news months ago but it was just yesterday that the idea of saying goodbye to the account sank in to me.

It’s sad because I certainly enjoy the company of my colleagues, and yeah, in a few days we’ll part ways. I’ve said it before and I’d say it again, they are probably the main reason why I lasted 7 months in the company.

So what am I going to do now? I don’t know yet. It might be a sign to go and pursue any job in the media world. But I can’t seem to let go of the 13^th months pay, I mean come on, I’m also working there for the money and I only have to wait a few months for it. Grrr.

I’ve been quite attached to my colleagues, and adding the fact that I enjoyed my first job, it’ll be hard to say goodbye. Why do all good things come to an end.

Dancing out on the edge

I’m officially 22 years old. *sigh* Am really getting old.

Anyway, this morning I received a text message from Jen saying that starting next week I’ll be on the night shift again. No freaking way. It was like just 3 months since I was transferred to the morning shift. Are they trying to kill me? Don’t they know it’s super hard to adjust especially if you were informed for like 3 days before the new schedule starts?

But then again, I’ve been considering going back to the night shift so I can have a little more cash. So I listed the Pros and Cons of going back to the Night shift:

Cons

- I got so used with the AM shift, feels like I have a regular-office job

- Lunch breaks. In the Night shift you have limited choices where to eat (McDo, Jollibee, KFC, or the Pantry. But you can also go for some place far which means a 10 minute walkathon like Chow King, North Park, Brothers and Yellow Cab.) But in the Morning shift, there’s like a list of choices.

- I can’t ride the shuttle anymore. Meaning more walks since I’m going to ride the LRT and MRT most likely.

- EOP galore since our VA trainer was also transferred to the night shift.

- I’ll miss Marj-jie, Kuya Ben, and Rae noona.

Pros

- I get to be with Ace and Janus again.

- More money because of the night differential. Hmmm… the salary increase plus the night differential, tempting.

- It’s already dark when I go to work so I won’t be sweating so much because of the sun, so walking wouldn’t really be a problem.

- No more Jolly-jeep. Fast-food galore.

- I can go to the mall before work.

So yeah, night shift doesn’t sound that bad right? I just feel that I’m more comfortable with the morning shift for some reason. There’s nothing I can do anyway to reverse the decision.

Caffeine intake would increase again.

Bonus Feature

Being a Harry Potter fan, I was ecstatic to know that the team names in my first job would turn out to be the houses of the novel’s Wizard school. How cool is that right? But my enthusiasm burst quickly like a bubble pricked by a needle when I learned that my team was named the Hufflepuff team.

I never liked the Hufflepuff house. In the book, Hufflepuff students are pushovers. Insignificant and boring people. It wouldn’t matter if you remove the Hufflepuff house and students because it wouldn’t really affect the whole story.

On the contrary, despite my open loathing for the said Hogwarts house, I feel lucky that I’m part of Livewire’s Hufflepuff team – which is the exact opposite of the Hufflepuff people in the novel.

Since this is my first job, the relationship with my colleagues plays an important part. You’ll never enjoy your job if you do not enjoy the company of the people you’re going to be with everyday while you’re in this company. And I’m confident enough to say that I’m blessed with this.

My batch mates (the second-to-the-last batch since we don’t really have a wave or something), I never thought that I’d easily get along with them, that was when I first saw them during the contract signing.

Dianne was the first one I really got to talk with. I’m the shy and quiet type, but I never felt awkward when I got to have a little chat with her. She’s one interesting butch.

Then there’s the ever poise Jen who could eat one chocolate bar for lunch in probably less than an hour. She reminds me of a college friend, so it was not hard for me to be comfortable with her.

If you want some sensible talk, there’s Ace. He’s really smart and witty. However, be warned, conversations with him will always include Mariah Carey.

Robby Noona is someone you won’t easily forget. He’s fun to be with and I really enjoy his company.

And finally there’s Kuya Ben. He would be my complete opposite – in terms of personality that is. But nonetheless, he turned out to be the one that I’m most thankful for.

Now that’s five reasons why I love the Hufflepuff team, but it doesn’t stop there.

There’s our cute lead and trainer Justin, the adorable Edry, and ever charming banzai girl Marj. Our supportive and cool TL Mami Nari, Kuya Mark, Kuya Angelo, Ate Miles, the hottest mama Ate Mercy and the list goes on and on. All of them have been helpful in one way or another.

I have always been very vocal about my dream career. I may not gain much in terms of a foundation for a future career that I hope I’d be pursuing soon with this job, but I’ve grown as a person with the help of my team.

My current job is like a Triple Caramel Macchiato. The Hufflepuff team would be the sweet and addictive caramel syrup, because it blends perfectly with the coffee and enhances the taste of the three espresso shots making it less bitter and more pleasant to drink. Not to mention it just makes you crave for more.

And just like a cup of coffee that's about to be empty. The best thing to do is to just enjoy the aromatic beverage until the last drop. And when you're done drinking, it will be hard to forget how great it was.

It's already been six months since I met these guys. Six months might be a short time, but it's enough for me to know that they're a great bunch of people.

And one thing’s for sure. Livewire’s Hufflepuff team is no pushover.

One-Two Combo

My blog’s a year older again. I’ve been officially blogging for two years now. Cool. Though I have blog accounts on Wordpress, Livejournal, MTVAsia, Incubus site, and Multiply, I’m much more active in posting here.

So, for fun, I decided to browse and read my blog posts in 2006 and 2007. It was fun.

A few days ago I read this really interesting article in the newspaper, a girl (someone I don’t really know and remember and whom I expect to be a socialite) had this little survey:

Really interesting eh?

My first choice was the Fast Forward button. I’m the type of guy who, as much as possible, tries not to dwell in the past and wants live and enjoy life as it is, and of course prepare myself for the things ahead. The past is the past. You can’t undo the mistakes that you already did, can not relieve the same happy and blissful feeling you have had. And there’s this ‘Keep moving forward’ line in some movie that I also forgot. Fast Forward would be the practical choice.

But then again, having a blog is like having an Instant Replay button in your life. As I was browsing and reading my old posts, I remembered how happy I was during my OJT in Malaya, the hardships of looking for a job, puyatan seesions for a project and unforgettable moments during my college life.

And though you can never have the same feeling that you had back then, relieving some of the moments in your past that’s somehow temporarily been erased in your memory makes you smile, because those are the things that made you what you are now.

So yeah, I choose the latter.

Chokeslam

The only good thing I can think of about summer is that there's no more school, which equivalents to less traffic. Yay! And I'm not really happy for students because they get to rest, because we (the working people) don't!

Hmmm... that also means I can't really bring the PSP to the office since my brother would probably be laying with it all day long.

I've been drinking less coffee as well since it's really freakin hot!

I'm a big Sponge Cola fan. If you know me personally, then you probably know that. I just love their songs! and the band's super cool. They're not 'baduy' and 'corny'.

I can't wait for this Sponge Cola gig my college friend and fellow SC fan Cha told me about. And yeah, I really want to go! I never watched the band play live... ever. Which is weird because I've been a fan ever since I heard Jeepney on the radio and I don't even though what and how the guys look like.

I already filed a vacation leave for that day. Hopefully they approve it.

Fight heat with heat

It’s summer again!! Grrr, I can’t tolerate heat. Thankfully, the sun’s at its peak when I’m in the office, meaning I’m browsing the net while wearing a jacket and hugging my Batman pillow. Lol.

Anyway, my account, ‘Livewire’, had our GBC last Thursday at Club Manila East. I did not swim of course, just went there for the bonding and picture taking. It was fun. I will surely miss those people…. Sigh

Whatever things

I’m now a regular employee of IBM. Super Cool. So since I already have an increase (and it’s quite big), I will surely stay here for a little longer. Just shows how I love money.

It’s super hot! And I hate it. Good thing I have work from 10AM – 7:30PM, since it is cold inside the office. The aircon in my room can’t beat the heat, I have to open an electric fan to keep my room cool.

I’m also currently reading Patricia Cornwell’s Cause of Death at work – since there are new people, I get to work on less mails meaning more Petix mode.

I’m also been playing Final Fantasy tactics on PSP. Love the FF series.

To say something weird, I’ve been quite crazy about Korean songs nowadays. 40% of the songs in my phone are Korean. I love BoA, Se7en, AnyBan, Epik High, and Super Junior.

Sings: cause I can’t stop thinking bout you girl… (so boyband-ish, but I like it. Lol)

Lens

It’s hard to write a blog post when you all you can talk about is work. And I think I’ve had enough work-related post. May it be ramblings, bitterness, happy-moments, or whatever. So yeah, I’m still in IBM, be staying for a little while.

Anyway, I just wanted to post something since I already fixed my banner and side bar pics error. Hopefully, this will give me drive to write.

On the other hand, the picture is supposed to be a shot of one of those Makati rallies. And yeah, no wonder I always get a 75% grade on my Photojournalism class in college. I just don’t know how to take good pictures.

I bought a new phone!! I got a Samsung u600... though I really want f330... but it's good anyway.

The best reality show would be ‘The Amazing Race’, aside from the fact that the show is filled with adrenaline rush like excitement and thrill, it is really entertaining and somehow we get to see different perspective of things from different countries.

The Amazing Race Asia 2 is up and I think team Philippines got better chances of winning this season. One of the challenges in Episode 1 was for the team to eat Balut. Lol.

Two teams from the Philippines again:

Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez

(The guys from Sports Unlimited and Game Plan. I have faith in them. They were even voted ‘Most Likely To Win’ where they got 45.5% and ‘Favorite Team’ with 36.2%. Come to think of it, Aubrey and Jacqueline won the same awards the previous season, most probably fans voted because of looks. Lol. Oh and they got in 1st place in episode 2. Dapat lang, 1st destination's the Philippines.)

Panic mode

I was at Glorietta this afternoon (supposed to be graduation party thing was cancelled so Robby, Ace, Dianne and I decided to meet up at the mall). Not more than 3 minutes after meeting Ace and Robby, we were at the activity area at the center, we heard gun shots and people started to panic and run. Of course, our initial instinct is to run as well. Spell stampede. Lol.

But of course, it's business as usual for call centers... lol.

And now, we're stuck here at PBCom because of the curfew. Whoo. Spell exciting. haha. Especially when you see helicopters and tanks roaming around Makati. haha.

Anyway. It’s pay day (again, how time flies… and no I ain’t complaining), I’m quite excited cause we’ll also get our 13th month pay. So yea, be expecting striking amount when I withdraw later. >evil laugh<.

I don’t know if I’ll avail the ’08 Starbucks planner. Doesn’t look good to me, plus they added three more stickers, and it seems like more people are going to get one. The ’07 planner’s so heavy, hassle to carry. The ’06 planner would be the best, plus it has those discount and free drink coupons.

Live like a vampire

I finished my training weeks ago, and yeah it feels great to work when you know you’ll get a yummy paycheck. But still, you can’t get much pleasure with money.

It’s funny because I’m still browsing the job finder paper and sites looking for writing jobs. But then again, right now I have no reason to quit my call center job in IBM, if you can really call that call center coz my account don’t do phone calls. I don’t feel defeated or what, knowing that most of us ended up in call centers. Saya kasi maghanap ng trabaho!

So yeah, loads happened after a month. A mall (walking distance from my workplace) bombed and burned, an ex-president pardoned, PBA games, PBB celebrity edition 2 (yeah I watch the show whenever I can), and of course work (But I ain’t complaining, easy money’s always welcome).

And I didn’t realize that Christmas is so near! Haha. Maligaya ang pasko ko!

Hmmm… I just forgot what I was supposed to write.

LiveWire

First week of training was great. Had loads of fun. Really enjoy the company of my co-trainees (Jen, Ace, Robby, Dianne and Kuya Ben) and of course our two trainers Justin and Pia (who is also a Thomasian. Thomasians everywhere).

But I also got a hard slap from reality. My lifestyle immensely shifted. Waking up when it’s still dark is really not thrilling. And those sardines-like MRT rides in the morning and evening. And of course the Makati traffic, don't even get me started.

And yeah, I don’t really know if this job could provide a solid foundation for a future career but at least my paycheck will be good. Lol. I’m just starting anyway.

But what’s great about it is the work atmosphere. Light, happy, carefree, hardly any pressure at all. Couldn’t get any better eh? Wooh and free coffee too. Yeah!

UST Tigers lost to the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

That’s it. So much for defending the basketball championship. we lost the cheer dance crown, and the seniors men’s basketball as well.

But the players did their best. Rookie Mirza didn’t get much luck. But canals showed some passion and desire to win. And Jervy Cruz, he will still be this season’s MVP no doubt.

Sigh.

I remember my interview with Japs Cuan after they won the championship last season. He said that they will defend the title no matter what. Too bad for him this is his last season. But he’s an OK point guard and he was the only cager who gave me different and decent answers to my questions (the others kept saying the same thing over and over again).

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, good thing I’ll start work tomorrow. Got something to else to think and worry about.

Grrr. this reminds me of the matches of SMC-RP in FIBA. Same disappointed feeling.

Yay. Finally I got to update my blog. I’ve been busy with my job requirements and such, start my training on Monday. So I’ve been playing lots of Final Fantasy 12 and Raw VS SmackDown on PS2 – I know I’ll have little time when I start work.

And about my soon to be work. It not really my dream job but it’s ok. The company offers twice the salary of Bulletin and ABS. And at least still get to write. I know I don’t have the patience to answer phone calls from foreigners. Lol.

Sigh. I’m far from where I wanna be.

Anyway, even though it’s late, as a Thomasian, I must include that the 5 year cheer dance crown of the Salinggawi Dance Troupe ended. The UP Pep Squad got the championship this year, Gawi landed on 1st place. But it’s all good. Tanggap ko na matalo sila sa UP coz they were great. But of course I think Gawi’s better. Lol.

Tigers and Eagles will face on Sunday. The winner will then battle 2nd placer La Salle with the twice to beat advantage.

Been playing X-Men Legends 2 all week.

My X-team: Juggernaut (or Rogue), Magneto (or Wolverine), Ice Man (or Storm), and Jean Grey.

I usually just control Jean and Magneto, so I can stay back and just buff my allies or attack the enemies from afar. Their Telekinesis and Levitation abilities are the best.

My UAAP forecast seems to be accurate, at least three of my predictions for now. The Tigers needs to win over the Tamaraws first. If they win, they secure the final slot. But if they lose, they might face the Tamaraws again since they will be tied if ever.

On the other hand, if UE will be able to get a round 2 sweep, they will move on to the Finals. Then the third and fourth placer will have a face-off where the winner will face the team on the second spot with a twice to beat disadvantage. The winner will of course face the Warriors.

But if UE loses to DLSU on Thursday, we will have the usual semi-finals. The first placer will face the fourth placer with the twice to beat incentive, while the second placer, also with the same benefit, will face the third placer.

So yeah, the last matches are all crucial. Especially for the top 5 teams.

Couch potato

The couch and television seems to be my newly found best friends. These past few days, I’ve been doing nothing but watch TV – the whole day. Well that was something I couldn’t do when I was still a student, and since I’m still bumming around.

Anyway, some of the shows I’m currently crazy about:

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia – Love this show. Really funny. I like the way the four characters talk to each other: they shout and argue 24/7.

On the Lot – just finished but it was one of the best reality shows.

Mommy Elvie’s Problematic Show – a low-budget reality show and I think the sequel of the Misadventure of Maverick and Ariel which stars Ariel and Mommy Elvie. Now the grumpy and ice cream lover Mommy Elvie has her own show. Lol.

Mad TV - I need a daily dose of laughter, and this show never failed to supply it for me. I think it's the best comedy show.

Scrubs – same reason. I think it’s funny. And i love the theme, sings: "I'm no superman..."

*as you can see, I love shows that makes me laugh. Not those dramas where the boy goes back in time to save the girl (considering they are still high school students) or with the theme song “Langit ka, lupa ako…” Grrr. *

WWE Raw – wrestling of course. You gotta love those fake punches and story lines. And this brand consist the best Divas in the industry (Go Daddy.. woohoo!) There’s Lita and Trish Stratus, two of the best Divas ever, too bad they retired last year.

Hardball – my daily dose of sports talk.

UAAP/PBA – and I don’t watch NBA, cagers are too good. Lol

Queer Eye – this show is really entertaining. Plus you get to learn something.

America’s Next Top Model – I just watch it. No reason really.

Chibi Maruko Chan – the girl who replaced Dora. She cute and funny unlike the little black girl who stares at you for a minute.

Heroes – my dad came home on night with the season 1 DVD. And it was great. Imagine X-men and CSi in one show. Really cool. Thought I finished the series, I still watch it on CS.

News worthy

I’m a journalism graduate and even I don’t read the newspapers or watch the news everyday. I think it’s really draining. Reading and watching the same issues about politics, deaths and stuffs that I’m not and will never be affected. But I’m glad I watched the news last night. I was laughing so hard about the Bong Alvarez and Gretchen Malalad story.

The ex-PBA cager, Alvarez, was so drunk and he assaulted the taxi driver because according to him he was… ummm brought to a different place something like that. Then Gretchen came to cover the story for ABS-CBN. Alvarez declined to be interviewed by Malalad so she decided to talk to the cab driver instead. Alvarez, being a total gentleman, didn’t want Malalad to talk to the cab driver and was talking crap. Then he elbowed her and pulled her hair. And what do you expect a karate gold medalist and black belter will do? She gave him a quick punch or two. Gretchen was like ‘bring it on’.

I wouldn’t dare or even think of attacking a karate expert, or just any girl. Well, Alvarez was detained but later bailed out. Nevertheless, serves him right. Talk about being a total A**!!

2007 PBA Rookie Draft

No surprise for the 1st overall pick. No doubt Welcoat will pick Joe Devance, the obvious, wise and rational choice. Same thing goes with the 2nd pick, with San Miguel choosing Samigue Eman.

My favorite UAAP point guard Marvin Cruz was drafted to Air21 as their 14th pick. I mean I was expecting it but was hoping that they would not choose him. The team needs a good point guard anyway. Air21 also got Intal, Kramer, Aljamal and Masbang for their 4th, 5th, 8th and 20th pick.

Good thing Air21 chose Intal. I had a feeling San Miguel might pick him. Atenista overload for the Beermen if that happens (Gonzales, Tenorio, Villanueva, and Racela).

Red Bull took Duncil for their 15th pick. Might be to replace Fonacier. I also did not expect Escalona drafted to Ginebra. I was surprised that he was chosen in round 1 when I was expecting Marvin Cruz and Jojo Duncil instead, and the two were among the last two applicants to be chosen.

San Miguel chose Eman and Jonas Villanueva. Good choices. And I’m still a fan of the team despite it looking like a ‘used to be cagers’ of the Ateneo Blue Eagles. At least Fonacier is now a Beermen (my favorite Eagle cager), when I saw Villanueva playing for San Miguel I knew Fonacier will come next. Lol. And I don't really like the Enrico Villanueva.

Bonus feature

I can’t believe Zach Lipovsky was eliminated in ‘On The Lot’. I was rooting for him since the start of the show. He’s a great director. Original and creative stories, also a great guy when it comes to effects.

There are four left. And I think I’ll go with Will Bigham or Adam Stein.

On The Lot is one of the few shows I watch on the boob tube. Though I never imagined myself as a director, or just anything in the entertainment industry, watching the show makes me want to make my own movie – well like that will happen.

I just can’t help but be impressed. It’s no joke thinking of a story and directing it in a week. Though they only make two minute features, everything takes a lot of time.

‘I solemnly swear that I’m up to no good’

** don’t worry Neidz, I know you’re just about to read Deathly Hallows so I won’t post any spoilers yet.

So there, finished reading after two days, reading half for the first day and the rest the next day – I’m not the type who would read the entire book for a day, apparently my weak and thin arms wouldn’t allow me to carry an encyclopedia-like book for more than 30 minutes, plus my eyes and neck would hurt as well.

Anyway, the book was great no doubt. Every question answered. Though it somehow reminded me of Martial Law in a magical and fantasy way. The Quibbler was the Mosquito press, ‘Potterwatch’ was the Radio Veritas, and so on (during my senior year in college, I reported about the Martial Law thrice. Funny how I always that part).

So yeah, I love it. I just had a hard time visualizing the Epilogue for some reason.

And it’s really over. *sigh* I remember when I first read the series in High School, instantly becoming a fan. So now to wait for the final two movies and hopefully not be disappointed.

Absence of action

So bored. Been basketball-less now.

SMC-RP’s Olympic quest turned into a nightmare. PBA draft not until late August, as well as the fiesta conference. UAAP only three days a week. Life is quite boring now. Lol.

So I guess I have to start my never-ending job hunting, yet again.

Looking for the “right job” is hard, but I’m not losing hope.

Decent consolation

San Miguel – team Pilipinas grabbed the 9th place in the FIBA-Asia tournament. They failed to get the Olympic dream but at least managed to top the classification matches right?

Hopefully PBA rules will be changed so our cagers will be familiarized with international rules. That would increase our chances next time, also bringing in the lessons SMC-RP learned from the tournament.

Maybe next time when we could see the likes of Archer Rico Maierhoffer, Tiger Jervy Cruz, Beermen Larry Fonacier or Enrico Villanueva, or Yousif Aljamal and of course Arwind Santos in the Philippine National Basketball team, we would then hopefully be part of the Olympics.

I’m a Danny Seigle fan, but in the FIBA tournament I was impressed with Gabe Norwood and Kelly Williams.

Anyway, PBA draft this month. Hope San Miguel picks good players. Also hoping that my favorite cagers (Marvin Cruz and Macky Escalona) will be drafted in decent teams.

I'm way over Dora, she bores me now. Good thing I have a new little kid to watch - Chibi Maruko Chan. I'm really loving the show now. The show somehow reminds me of my no.1 favorite anime Doraemon (I really love that one).

Maruko's weird and perplexed expression is way better than Dora's silent and blinking stare.

One thing though, Maruko's english voice in Animax doesn't fit her. But she's still adorable.

That's it for San Miguel Pilipinas in the Olympic qualifiers. Sad to say they didn't get pass through the preliminaries. But hey they did their best and that's all that matters. They worked hard, just sad that it all came short. Maybe next time then.

I say more pure pinoys in the national team. And the F**K with Chot Reyes, I never liked him. Danny Seigle didn't get much action, but nevertheless I'm still a big fan. Lol.

Pottermania still

So I decided to make my wordpress account a sports blog – well mostly about Philippine basketball. So check it out if you’re a basketball fan. And there was this guy who posted a comment in my ‘UAAP season 70 fearless forecast’ saying that I should look at the current team standings and make a logical guess. Kainis. That’s why it’s called fearless forecast right? Lol.

Anyway, haven’t read the final Harry Potter book yet. But I’m now re-reading the Goblet of Fire. Also had a Harry Potter movie marathon. Total Pottermania for me – I didn’t read the newspapers for three days now and no watching of news on TV also, but I’m no Potter freak ok.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I have to say, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was, so far, the best. So I finally got to watch it yesterday with my sister and I was not disappointed. Cinematography’s changed but it turned out pretty good.

OoTP was not my favorite book but the movie was super!!

I was impressed with the girl who played as Umbridge, very effective. I really want to kick her ass and break her cat plates or whatever you call that.

Luna! I always liked her in the book and now I love the character. I don’t like Ginny for Harry, she looks so much like Lily. I think she likes Ginny because of that. I think Luna and Harry would make a great couple. Lol.

I always liked Cho – in the book that is and I was disappointed when Katie Leung was chosen to play the role of Cho Chang. She’s supposed to be “extremely pretty” but the actress is extremely the opposite. Joke lang. Katie’s fine, just disappointed because I like Cedric and Cho together so yeah. I was looking forward seeing a swan patronus, but in the movie Cho was the “betray-tor”, she was given the truth serum though. Anyway.

Tonks. She’s so cool. Too bad she didn’t get enough scenes. The last scene of the Weasley twins at Hogwarts, not really what I imagined but it was fine. Percy didn’t even get to say anything, Lol.

I was disappointed with the scene when Sirius died, I was expecting something emotional and all but it turned out short. Bellatrix’s one crazy woman, cool. Snape’s past!! Was looking forward to that too, but it also was short.

I didn’t like Gwarp. Good thing he was not given too much stories.

The battle between the Deatheaters and the Aurors, super cool. As well as the scene with Harry and the gang in the Ministry. Oh and the prophecy, the shinning ball thing, I was expecting something more dramatic.

Trelawney cried. Aww.

I love the movie. Can’t wait for the next film. I might cry in the scene where Snape killed Dumbledore. Lol.

Before I watch the movie, I bought a Harry Potter poster at Powerbooks. The girl at the cashier gave me an invitation to the grand launch of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I have no plans buying the book though - at least not this time, I have no money. And I won’t go to the grand launch thing, maiingit lang ako!!! And I have no plans going to Makati wearing a Harry Potter costume. Lol.

Philippines end 29th Jones Cup with bronze, prepares for the pre-Olympic qualifier

After their consecutive big wins from Iran, Chinese Taipei and last from Qatar 88-80, lady luck slips team San Miguel Pilipinas from her hands as tailender Kazakhstan slammed a vicious 90-107 victory in the last day of the 29th William Jones Cup International Basketball Tournament held in Taiwan.

Jordan, defeated by team Japan in the last day, got their first taste of the gold, meanwhile Lebanon received the silver and the Philippines with a 5-4 record tumbled in fifth for the bronze to tie with USA, Chinese Taipei, Iran and Korea.

In their last match, James Yap injured his right ankles after a bad fall in the second half with 5 minutes left in the regulation. He was carried by Asi Taulava out the court.

Team Pilipinas started out strong but after Dondon Hontiveros and Jimmy Alapag both sank two triples in the third half, the game was tied 55-all for the last time. The “Filipinos” (or should I say Fil-Ams) then lost their spark failing to catch up to Kazakhstan as they stab a shooting fest.

SMC-RP should have won the silver but team Kazakhstan denied it.

Though they failed to end the tournament in a winning streak, SMC-RP proved that they have learned from their mistakes in their games against silver holder Lebanon and the young team of Japan, both of which they should have won.

They have managed to take advantage of their speed thus creating effective combinations in the court, this shows a great foundation on July 28 for the FIBA-Asia which will determine Asia’s representative for the Olympics.

But before the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament in Tokushima, the Filipinos will get an appetizer of the said tournament as the Philippines will host a four-nation invitational with China, Syria and Lebanon from July 12-15.

Team Philippines will face China, Iran and Jordan in Tokushima, thus the road to the “Olympic Dream” begins.

** Danny Seigle was seen sitting at the benches along with team Philippines in their last two games at the 29th Jones Cup. It seems that he had recovered from his injury. If he will take part in the FIBA-Asia, we will have higher chances.

Sports update

29th Jones Cup

Team San Miguel Pilipinas ruled the court gaining a big victory over team Taiwan in their in own land 82-64. The team finally took advantage of their speed as well as delivering a solid defense. Mark Caguioa was unstoppable ending the game with 20 points.

There is still hope.

** While watching the game with only three minutes in the regulation, for some unexplainable reason ESPN suddenly stopped airing the game. Same goes with ABC5. What the f**k, so I have to search the web for the results and I’m still searching for the video. Lol.

UAAP season 70

The UE Red Warriors got their revenge on the team that eliminated them in the semis last season and defending champion the UST Growling Tigers 73-60. The Tigers felt the impact of losing one of their key players Jojo Duncil who will take part in the PBA draft next month.

The Ateneo Blue eagles clipped the Adamson Falcons in an overtime victory 69-63. The Eagles is not as good without Escalona, Intal and Kramer. I’ll be waiting for their match against the Archers and I have a feeling the latter will be victorious.

Sports update

29th Jones Cup

SMC-RP managed to get back on track as they slashed team Iran in a 89-79 victory.

Finally we get to see more of James Yap in action as he delivered a decent amount of points in the ball game.

There is hope for team Philippines in the 29th Jones Cup. It’s great that they managed to come up with an effective strategy, to use the team’s only advantage – speed. SMC-RP is probably the fastest in the tournament. They are improving in terms of their offense. Slowly they’re getting used to international basketball.

We can just hope that undersize team Pilipinas could give the same result against taller Iran team in FIBA – Asi Taulava look like Jimmy Alapag next to the Iran players. Lol.

UAAP season 70

Suspended in the previous season, the returning DLSU Green Archers proved that they are to be feared as they ripped the young team of the UP Fighting Maroons 82-61 in the opening of the 70th season of the UAAP tournament.

In the other game, the FEU Tamaraws folds to the NU Bulldogs 70-73.

I didn’t like the opening number of the Salinggawi Dance Troupe, and also their uniform. Lol.

** I started this sports update thing last year. Here I am again. There’s nothing good on TV so I’ve been watching a lot of basketball instead.

** I just found out that UE’s Bonbon Custodio will not play this season, so I’ll put Marcy Arellano in my top 5 instead. Sorry. Lol.

Blurry

A Philippine basketball team in the upcoming Olympics seems hazy. Team Pilipinas has a 2-3 standing in the 29th William Jones Cup held in Taipei.

Though the team whipped a sweet victory over Korea, they bowed to the bigger Jordan team the following day. SMC-RP struggled throughout the game against the latter team and failed to gain momentum finishing with 70-74 on the score board.

The SMC-RP line-up seems ineffective. Erik Menk, Mick Penissi and James Yap couldn’t contribute anything to the team. I don’t know much about Gabe Norwood and why is he part of the line-up.

Coach Chot reyes even said that if Danny Seigle was there they would have less trouble. See. So I don’t know why he isn’t there.

I just hope we’ll be luckier and better in Japan for the FIBA-Asia Men’s Championship. And hope that Seigle will be playing for a higher winning chance so the “Olympic Dream” wouldn’t be just a dream.

Heartbreaker

1-2 for SMC – Team Pilipinas in the 29th William Jones Cup international basketball tournament.

Though the team defeated defending champion team USA in the opening, they suffered two consecutive defeats to Lebanon and Japan. And the thing is that SMC –RP should have won but the loss in the last two games was all due to an error made by the same cager, who happens to be one of my favorite cager, Dondon Hontiveros.

My sister and I couldn’t believe the lost to Japan. I mean the Japanese were young, age ranges from 21-24 – they are like UAAP players!

I’m not blaming Hontiveros or what but it was really his mistake. Nevertheless he still played well. The loss was just heartbreaking. I mean there we were, defeating USA in the debut, Team Pilipinas soared… but then crashed.

Well, hope we win the succeeding matches.

So much for the Olympic Dream.

I can’t believe they did not include Danny Seigle. He’s one of the greatest players. Anyway, at least my other favorite cagers are part of the line up: Hontiveros and Helterbrand.

The UST Tigresses made a successful comeback in the Shakey’s V-League sweeping the SSC Lady Stags. Champions again! The Tigresses skipped the last conference because the team’s key players graduated.

Too bad I forgot to watch game 2 because I was watching Star Wars Episode II. Lol.

Only a few days to go and we’ll get to see college sports at its best – whoo bias. Lol.

UAAP season 70!!!

Last season the UST Growling Tigers got a Cinderella finish by finally capturing the senior men’s basketball championship after a 10 year title draught. Aside from that, UST was also the overall UAAP champion for the nth time and the Salinggawi Dance Troupe won the cheer dance competition for five consecutive years. Super Cool. What a great way to graduate and exit the school with those bragging rights eh? Sorry, just reliving the great past. Hehe.

So yeah, here are my senior men’s basketball final four teams:

1. UST Growling Tigers – the team is pretty much the same and I assume that they have a great drive and spirit to defend the title this season.

The biggest lost of the team will be the absence of Jojo Duncil, the season 69 finals MVP. Why is he leaving? There are some issues regarding his eligibility to join this season because of his age, but that was cleared a few days ago. But then again, he decided to drop his supposedly last UAAP year and has his eyes set for the PBA draft in next month (same thing with UP’s Marvin Cruz and AdU’s Ken Bono).

On the other hand, the team still has Jervy Cruz, who is obviously the main man of the Tigers. Plus there’s Cuan, Ababou and Espiritu. So nevertheless the group is still intact.

So they will be pressured, I just hope they can handle it. And yes Geno, I do hope they will miraculously defend the title.

2. DLSU Green Archers – they were suspended last season so they probably want to redeem the name of the school. The team has always been a strong contender anyway. And yeah I’ve always been an Archer fan. They still have good players like Jv Casio and Ty Tang (not sure if they will play, but if they will getting the Archers to the finals wouldn’t be a problem. Lol).

3. Ateneo Blue Eagles – Like the archers, this team was always part of the final four. But without Kramer, Escalona and Intal… I don’t know. Not sure if Tiu will still play. Nuff said.

4. UE Red Warriors – I’m quite impressed with this team actually. They have a solid defense plus a number of great players. I’d go for the UP Fighting Maroons but the team is still young, and the fact that Marvin Cruz will not play this season, that would cost them big time. I don’t know about Nestor David though, but if he will play I don’t think he can lead the team to the finals.

Aces outlast Beermen

NO!!!

The Beermen lost!! They were so close!!! And yeah, Purefoods won’t be playing in the finals as well. Grrr.

I don’t know why Villanueva was drafted to Beermen. I don’t like him. He should return to Red Bull and rather put Fonacier to San Miguel. Yeah!!

If Danny Seigle was playing Beermen should have defeated Alaska. I don’t know the reason why I don’t see Seigle in PBA - a reason why I don’t watch SMB games often, obviously my favorite PBA cager.

Anyway, I’ll stop watching PBA in the mean time.

Next up, my forecast in the upcoming UAAP season 70 (senior men’s basketball of course). UST will be the host for this season - I miss my school *sniff*.

Concert marathon

I decided to have a break from koreanovelas (just finished watching a new one), cartoons (especially Dora), and reality shows (the fight between the PBB girls is over, I love girl fights. lol).

Yesterday I had my first concert marathon. So yeah, I watched the latest live performances of three of my favorite Asian artist: BoA, Se7en, and Jay Chou.

I love watching live performances; you get to see how good your favorite is. I hate it when singers lip synch.

First, I watched Se7en's MTV 747 Concert. He's a better singer and dancer than rain - well for me that is. Didn't know he knows how to beat box, cool.

Next, BoA's MIT Arena tour. I really love her. Though she does not sound that great live, but she's a really superb performer. She's an eye candy.

And of course, Jay Chou's Mega Star Concert. He's the best. He's the king of Cpop. He's super cool. Diao bu diao?!

- Big Bird parody Pong Pagong and newly elected senator Noynoy look so much alike – for me that is. But I don’t remember how Kiko Matsing look liked. Kiko, Pong and Big bird are all gay. Lol.

- When I was a freshman in college, I used to stalk this girl I really like. She was a member of the Salinggawi Dance Troupe and she’s two years older than me. Lol. And speaking of which, I just searched for her friendster and multiply profile. Lol.

Soccermania… or footballmania, choose your pick

If you’ll ask me to name a guy who could be the ultimate icon for the male species, I wouldn’t think twice saying that it should be the football superstar David Beckham. He’s one of the best – if not the best – and I think it’s safe to say that he is the most famous football player ever.

Come on, look at him. He has everything a guy would want. He got the looks, a superb athletic talent, fame, money, charisma and girls going gaga over him.

I’m just not sure if he’s nice or what but I wrote an article about him being Motorola’s newest endorser and I found out that he’s an active UNICEF supporter and that’s cool. The phone that he’s endorsing, MOTO(RED), was created to help the anti-aids campaign in Africa.

He may be a player but if a guy is that famous and good-looking, who wouldn’t right? Can’t really blame him. Lol.

He also has this thing of making things cool and acceptable. If David Beck’s sporting headbands it’s cool – a reason why I’m now brave enough to be seen in public wearing a headband. And somehow Becks also became not just a super-athlete but a pop icon – well if your wife’s a fashion icon (if she is) then you should also look smart and trendy 24/7.

But on the other hand, he’s so full of tattoos. That’s somehow disturbing (but the VII on his arm is cool though). So yeah. He’s also overrated – well everybody knows that. Lol.

I was able to watch Becks return in the game a few nights ago on Star Sports, it was England VS Brazil. I stayed up until 5 in the morning just to watch the game live. It was a good match, and yeah he’s still good. Watching football is just as exciting as watching a basketball game. Watching the whole game of soccer is like watching the last 5 minutes of basketball - full of suspense. I was shouting ‘yes’ whenever Brazil missed a goal and be down if it was England. But the game was a draw. Sigh. I never liked Brazil. Lol.

Anyway, can’t wait for the next FIFA World Cup in 2010. I rooted for Italy in the previous tournament.

I don’t really know the deal with the name soccer and football. I took soccer as my last PE sport in college – I was able to persuade the Library Queen to take it as well cause I know once I convinced one the others will follow, good thing she was as ecstatic as I was in choosing that sport. Anyway, our soccer professor doesn’t want to be called Ma’am and I, for the nth time, accidentally addressed her Ma’am while watching a soccer match at the UST field. She then turned to me, gave me a dark look and said, ‘Ano tawag mo sakin?’ in a low voice. My head was on the chopping board, but then I quickly asked her why the sport was called soccer by some and football by others also adding something about American football and such. She smiled and said that it was a good question and started explaining, I just nodded and pretend that I was listening when I couldn’t understand anything she was saying. I was just thankful that she forgot about the Ma’am thing.

Torment

The waiting part is hell. It’s like you’re being tortured everyday.

At about 12noon Monday my dad woke me up and told me to call Company 2 because they called and I was still sleeping. So I called and they asked me if I was available that day to take the 2nd exam at 3:30 pm. Who was I to refuse, I am the applicant - even though it takes one and a half hour to go to Makati from our house and I just woke up. But miraculously I arrived on time. This time I was able to write 6 articles (I finished 5 in the 1st exam) and then took a 10-page grammar exam. By 8pm I finished the entire exam (to think that I finished an hour earlier, lol).

So I have to wait for another week for the results.

Oh and there were three journ thomasians working in company 2. Cool.

Just hope for the best. And wait. Lol.

Summer’s over! Yay!

I missed the rain!!! Now I can drink hot coffee again.

I did the impossible – I cleaned my room, and I mean CLEAN. Weird cause I usually just wait for my dad or whoever to clean it for me. Lol. Got rid of the useless papers too.

Epik High’s so cool. I heard their song ‘Fly’ while playing FIFA 07 on PS2. So cool.

Had my monthly movie marathon yesterday: Initial D, Sleepless in Seattle, Il Mare (the original and Korean version of the Lake House), The Lake House, the Classic, Sweet November, My little Bride, and Problem Child 2. Lol.

Crossing my fingers

It has been a very busy week, so busy that I’m so tired to surf the Net at night. Weird. But I’m also rather thankful. And no I don’t have a job yet. But I did have three job offers last week.

Staying in bumsville is really getting into my nerves. I was about to give up and just apply in a call center when I got a call from a company, so I went to the interview and all and it turned out really good. From all the applicants there were three of us who took the exam and were told to go back tomorrow for another exam and interview I guess. It was a so-so company and I was glad because we (the three of us who took the exams and were told to go back the next day obviously) were 75% sure that we were so in.

After the interview I met with my very “happy” friend Neida. We just had coffee and talked a little bit and I was telling her about the interview and how we think that we were already accepted or something.

When I got home I got a call from another company telling me to have an exam and interview the next day at the same time company # 1 had set. I applied as a writer for company 1 and as a news/sports writer for company 2, so I have to choose and I chose the latter. So to make the story short, I went to the interview and exam for company 2 and it turned out good. The people were nice, the salary was really competitive and I get to be a news writer – or sports writer. But they still have to assess my exam so I have to wait for a week. I got another call the next day, and since I already dropped company 1 and my application for company 2 is still pending, I went for the interview for company 3.

But I’d still pick company 2. When I got in their office I was really amazed, I want to work there and it was the first time I got that feeling. I just really hope I could get out of bumsville AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If ever I would fail and not get accepted, I’ll just apply in a call center and would not care.

I’ve been so freakin idealistic of getting the perfect job or a job that is related to the course I’ve finished and not applying in a call center. Jaded. Burnout. Or whatever.

Whatever things

I missed the last episode of ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’ because a friend called and told me she has a problem and I don’t have the heart to tell her that I’m watching TV since her voice is quite cold and gloomy. But it turned out that her problem was just the same thing she’s been making a big deal of since college. Grr. But I still talked to her anyway.

Currently crazy about this Korean sitcom ‘Nonstop’. I really love it. Love the cast. Love the show.

I just found out that former Magic 89.9 dj Andi 9 is a MTV VJ HUNT contestant. Cool.

Smoke and sweat

It’s almost like a tradition – the Demigod’s birthday that is. We always seem to do the same thing and at the same place – even though it’s not really my kind of thing since I’m more of the quiet and laidback coffee shop kind of guy. But once in a while it’s nice to just do something you usually don’t do, go somewhere you never usually go.

We again went to Malate and had our annual bar hopping – he’s a certified party guy so there you go. The crowd’s really different, but nevertheless we all had a great time dancing, drinking and doing nothing. Lol.

Earlier that day we met at TriNoma (or something), a new mall in front of SM North, killing time at Coffee bean and Tea Leaf because it’s still quite early (meeting time’s supposed to be 5pm but I went to Mega to buy a Yabang Pinoy band meet an old friend so I got to TriNoma at about 7). The Demigod bought me a double macchiato. The Libido Queen wore a mini skirt which showed off her “mala pussycat doll” legs. Lol. We got to Malate at about 11 or so, and went to three different bars. I don’t know the reason why people would go to different bars in a night.

When the bars at Malate were closing, we went to Libis to finally have the Eat All You Can Breakfast at Something Fishy, something that we were planning to do for almost a year now.

Just a typical night. But I always enjoyed the Demigod’s birthday celebration. Can’t wait for next year. Lol.

Next on the birthday list: the Library Queen and the Libido Queen. Wonder where we’ll go.

Received my diploma yesterday. Four years for that paper. And I’m still a resident of bumsville.

Something cool

Something from Milano. The ‘rules’ states that I should tag 10 people which I will not do, I did this because I love writing about myself. Lol.

Rules: Each player of this game starts off with 15 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write an entry of their own 15 weird things/habits/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end, you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names. No tag backs

1. I love taking pictures of myself. I have 250 pics in my ‘me album’ on my phone – more than half were erased. Pictures in the ‘frendz folder’ and ‘mi pamilya folder’ also has me on it, I erase it if I’m not there. Lol.

2. I’m super lazy; I don’t know anyone lazier than me. I’d think of any excuse so I could not do an errand and not clean my room. Lol.

3. I don’t eat instant noodles unless I cook it myself. I boil the noodles for exactly three minutes - depending on the instructions at the back – no more, no less.

4. I only eat three kinds of fish: salmon, tuna and bangus. I’m not really fond of seafoods – I only eat prawns noting else aside from that.

5. I ate canned sardines once because I was dared to do so; well I didn’t really eat it because I never swallowed it. Lol.

6. I use hair conditioner (not everyday though). After taking a bath I blow dry my hair for a few minutes, then stay in front of an electric fan for a minute or so then wait for it to dry. Then I’ll iron my hair and apply wax (not everyday). Couldn’t do all of this for almost a week because of my finger injury. Grrr.

7. Few things that I always carry with me whenever I go out: pen, notepad, tissue, alcohol, vicks inhaler, ventolin inhaler, earphones and a mirror.

8. I have four alarm clocks and I still find it hard waking up.

9. First two posters in my room: The Calling and Justice League.

10. Alcohol makes me talkative.

11. Vampires are cool but I find Anne Rice’s books boring.

12. Once I started to like something, I’m totally blind to its flaws.

13. I have five perfumes or cologne or whatever you call them which I used depending on the occasion or whatever: Cool Water for Men (my fave!), a Baby Bench Cologne, Diesel (Blue Soda), Axe Energy and Hugo Dark Blue.

14. My room is filled with scattered and piled useless papers I couldn’t throw away. Weird.

15. Things beside my bed: two notebooks, a pen, my 2006 planner, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks, Vince’s Life by Vince Teves, A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby, a mini basketball toy, four alarm clocks, and tissue box.

One-way trip to Canada

What supposed to be a job fair trip accidentally turned to a day of laughter and long talks, of course accompanied with a great deal of money burning.

If you haven’t seen your friends for like a month or so – when you practically spent almost everyday with them in school – someone would always say either ‘pumayat ka’ or ‘tumaba ka’. The library queen indeed lost weight while the libido queen and the demigod gained a few lbs. That don’t apply to me though because I always get ‘payat ka pa rin’ – well sometimes the sarcastic comment of ‘tumataba ka ata Sho’.

The original plan for the day was a movie date with my high school buddies Neida, Janet and Loubell, then have a little chit chat in a coffee shop after. But since I had an exam that afternoon, Nedia’s going to meet with her Dad, and Loubell’s still in her class, it was cancelled.

I ended up meeting with my college friends. The Libido Queen announced that a job fair was to be held a few days ago, everybody wanted to go, so hey, why not go with them, I miss them a lot.

We then had a Latte Session. Since the Libido Queen wanted to spill all of her bitterness about love life and Canada (which is a different story), and I don’t know any other way to do it than some overpriced coffee and deserts to keep us sane. Lol. Then walk, walk, walk and walk. Lol.

A group of bum fresh grads spending their money on overpriced coffee and Japanese food. I had fun. Can’t wait for our next trip, but I doubt the Canada topic would be talked about, yet again. Lol.

My finger's getting better. I even took a picture of the wound while I was changing the bandage. And I don't think you guys want to see it though. Lol.

Blood stained glass

I never liked hospitals or clinics. They have this distinct scent that whenever I get to smell it I somewhat freak out. I may be the skinniest among our family but I was the only one who was never been confined in a hospital… yet.

I have aprilophobia, the fear of medical procedures using injections. Weird for a guy I know, and I have no bad experience whatsoever with injections. I’m just so afraid of injections. I remember when I was in grade 6 and there’s this free injection thing for the students, I was at the back of the line and I cried when it was my turn.

Aside from that I’m also hemophobic. I get so damn nauseous when I see blood.

So a few nights ago, while I was washing the dishes I accidentally broke the glass cup I was holding and yeah I had a big cut on my index finger. Then I saw blood flowing from the wound… and I mean flowing and you know what happened. Lol. My father tried to put some bandage on it while I was sitting on the sofa feeling so damn sick as if I’m gonna die. Lol.

After drinking some pain killers I tried to sleep because I have a job interview at 10 the next day, but my finger still feel so sore and when I tried to change the bandage I couldn’t take it off, the blood dried and was glued to the bandage.

I went to the hospital with my sister to have it removed, it was so damn painful. And yeah I was sitting on a chair and was feeling so damn nauseous. The nurse noticed that the cut was big and she said, “Naku kailangan yatang tahiin ito.”

I freaked out.

But luckily the doctor said that it’s not necessary. But I failed to go to the interview. Sigh.

I hate it because I couldn’t do the Korean peace sign now. Lol.

By the way I’m also ophidiophobic, I can’t stand snakes – even pictures. And what’s worse is that my siblings love to watch documentaries about snakes.

I’m coming clean

There are just a lot of things that people wouldn’t admit liking. You know you like them but you can’t confess. Shy? I don’t think so. More like ashamed, you wouldn’t want to look uncool right?

So yeah, since this is my 100th (yay to us Milano!) I’m going to embarrass myself. Lol.

Calling out my guilty pleasures:

** Boybands. Used to be cool, but if you still like them now you must be living in the past. Lol. I used to like Blue and Boyzone. And yeah, I never really liked Backstreet Boys and N’Sync, like a few of their songs though. sings: 'You bring out the best in me like no one else can do...'

** I’m a fan of Hale and I think they’re great. Well, some guys say the band’s this and that corny whatever so I’ve been quite silent liking them, unlike Sponge Cola everyone knows I’m a big fan. I’m quite silent about Callalily as well, and I don’t like them because they’re Thomasians.

** I currently like the song ‘Magmahal Muli’ by Sam Milby and Say Alnozo. Yeah I know, laugh at me. And ‘Pon de Replay’ by Rihanna.

** I watch ‘Maging Sino Ka Man’. But hey, at least its way better than Kim-Gerald’s right? Corazon you deserve to be in distraught. But I just don’t like the soul-search thing with JB. Poor Celine, the best slut-slash-events organizer in town deserves to be happy. Ely what’s happening to you, poor Jackie. Lol.

** I watch ‘One Tree Hill’, I even have season 1-3 DVDs. I like Peyton and Lucas, finally they’re together. Lol.

** I still watch ‘Power Rangers’ and the Super Sentai series. I know I’m already 21 but its fun watching five heroes save the world from evil guys. I even have pictures of the ranger in my phone and the mp3 of their theme song as well. Not to mention a lot of videos in my computer. Lol. SPD EMERGENCY!!! DEKARANGER!!! Sings: “Hikari yo machi no tenshi tachi ni todoke”

** I’m also watching Philippines Next Top Model, as well as the American version for two weeks now. I’m rooting for Rina, partly because she’s a Thomasian. Lol.

** Aside from Manual, FHM, T3 and MetroHim, I also read Candy and Meg (from my sister) and the Yes showbiz mag (from my mom). Weird eh. And I like Meg than Candy, the latter’s too girly, I mean it just conain pictures of dress, makeup and such, well it is a girl mag. Lol.

So yeah, staining your own ego is fun. Lol.

The great circus

A fellow blogger recently posted about his current craze on European politics. I was quite surprised of course; personally I don’t know a thing about it. I posted a comment saying that I’d stick to Philippine politics. Lol. There’s nothing like Philippine politics. And here are a few reasons why I love it:

** We get to see Manny Villar’s dancing prowess in one of his campaign ads.

** We get to see another contender for the worst hair, along with North Korea’s President Kim Jong Il and Eddie Gil, Prospero Pichay. And come on, who could beat that ‘Pichay, itanim sa senado’ line. Cool.

** Some are giving away free insurance. Yay!

** A boxer turned politician –if ever elected, but thank God he didn’t go for the senator position.

** And then we get to see their smiling faces everywhere, posted in every wall, attached to some public transportation.

On a different note, here’s a great way to end a teleserye:

** The two main characters, hunted by death, surprisingly, in a much unexplained way, lives and ends up eating and having fun at Jollibee together. See what true love could do. -sniff sniff- And they just graduated from high school.

Just you

‘No man is an island’, true enough. Can’t argue with that right? But unlike other people who are in constant need of a buddy when they would go to the mall, I could spend the whole day alone and enjoy each and every single minute of it. Something that I call, ‘time for myself’. And I seem to find a lot of pleasure doing it.

Going to the mall alone is great because…

*you get to go anywhere you want.

*you don’t have to spend 10minutes talking in one corners deciding where to eat or where to go. Like you would ask “saan tayo kakain?” then number 1 friend would answer “kahit saan ok lang”, then number 2 friend would say “kayo na bahala, hindi naman ako gutom”, then you would say “sa –insert restaurant name here- na lang”, then friend 1 would say “ayoko dyan”, then friend 2 would suggest a place, then you would disagree… and after a few minutes of discussion your group would go to the food court.

*you don’t have to accompany your mom, sister, or a girl friend looking for the perfect outfit for hours.

*you could stay at PowerBooks and Starbucks (and sometimes Time Zone) for as long as you want.

*you’re not obliged to listen to anything your companion would tell you even if it bores you to death.

*you get to do people watching when you’re bored. And it’s fun.
A typical day for me at the mall would be: First at Starbucks enjoying my favorite Irish Cream Latte and Cinnamon Swirl while reading a good book. Go around CyberZone then go to PowerBooks. Buy a donut at GoNuts. Then buy a few back issue mags at Filbars. Play at Time Zone for some time. Then buy an ice cream or burger at McDonalds if I still have a few bucks. It may look boring but for me it’s spells F-U-N.

Try it. It’s great spending some time alone. Though I haven’t watched a movie by myself though. But I want to do it though. Lol.

Something new

Yesterday I just took my entire magazine collection– FHM, Manua, Pumpl and MetroHim –, started browsing, and reading the parts I usually ignore. I suddenly have this weird urge to read about fashion, health and lifestyle.

My exam last Friday had been somewhat of a wake-up call I guess. If I wanted to become a writer I must have at least basic knowledge of almost everything, I mean I shouldn’t just focus on my interest right? I was told to write about men’s fashion, I don’t even know the different types of clothes. I mean I know that what you wear on your upper body is called a shirt and its pants for the lower part, but what kind of shirt or pants this item is. No idea. When I was looking at the photos of the clothe line, I know I shouldn’t just call this shirt shirt or this pants pants.

Aside form that, I also watched Ambush Makeover, Project Runaway and America’s Next Top Model. A few cooking show and travel show on Discovery Travel and Living. I just want to be somewhat exposed to the topics I’m not familiar with.

Turns out that I still have a lot of things to learn.
